He's the Bee's Knees

Eli's class had their annual Spelling Bee. It was proud parent moment to see child after child stand up in front of the class and spell words ranging from 1st-3rd grade level. Elijah ended up in 6th place overall. He was disappointed not to win... I was thrilled that he accomplished what he did. It was a great!
Open House
I wish with all my heart that I could be the one to teach Sierra all the things she needs to know to get ready for kindergarten, and that I could be the one that she eats lunch with every day. But, since I can't be the there, I am so thankful to have a teacher like Miss Leticia. She is so calm, patient and she provided Sierra with a comfortable & safe place to spend her preschool days.
This week was Open House, and man did they have the classroom decked out! It was so impressive... I had to take a few teacher-mental-notes. The room was bursting with creative work and evidence that learning is taking place daily. Sierra showed us around with a lot of pride... that is priceless.

It's Mario Time!
Another year older and a new theme to LOVE! Elijah has recently turned 7 and has officially become a video fanatic... he can't get enough of the Super Mario Bros. So, at his request, we had a party this year (instead of Disneyland like usual). He wanted to invite his whole class... so we did. We held a Mario-themed bash at my parents house and it turned out perfectly. Good friends... a bouncer... yummy snacks & cupcakes... thoughtful gifts... and a HAPPY 7 year old(:
Eli, Sierra & Rich sported Mario T's (Eli really wanted to do overalls & dress full-out as Mario... ummmm, that's a bit much)
Papa helped with everything!! He worked really hard to make sure the house & yard looked perfect... and they did! Thank you!
Mario cupcakes & Lego party favors.
The bouncer made the party... it was so perfect! The kids were so funny going up the slide backwards, wrestling inside... all the things that made the teacher-mommies at the party a little nuts(:
Of course what REALLY made the party was all the wonderful faces of Elijah's friends. Most of the kids we've known since birth... I kind of had a little moment during the party as I watched them all, thinking when did they all get so big??

Daddy got Elijah a Gasol Lakers jersey, so they could match each other on game night. Do you think he liked it??

" Thanks for the cupcake, Mom."
" Aren't you going to eat it?"
" No, I don't like cupcakes, just the frosting."
Nice.

It's Been a While...
The clock is ticking... the days are flying... and this is what we've been up to:
Spring Break we made our escape to Laughlin, NV for some sun and family time on the lake. We had lazy days of floating in the rafts, swimming, collecting rocks, and snacking. It was a short getaway, but so great. We got to have those special little moments with the kids that we'll always remember.
Sierra and I laid in the raft for longest time playing "name that tune" as I hummed classics from every Disney movie I could think of.
My nature girl made friends of these ducks pretty quickly... their snack of choice: Nacho Doritos.
Loving her Daddy-time...
Eli spent his day with a friend he made at the lake. They were "surfing".

Cub Scouts has also been in full effect lately. On this day, the boys went hiking on a local trail to earn their hiking beltloop. Before all the kids got there, Eli & hung out in the park. He made a log into his "boat" and eventually fell in the water- all before his friends even got to the park.

Sierra has got a new interest these days- she's getting really into dinosaurs. We've been checking books out from the library about them, watching movies (the Land Before Time
series), and we took her to see real dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum. She was thrilled. I feel so thankful to have such a smart, inquisitive, and sensitive little girl.
